Sonya Hene
Sonya Hene’s love of mosaics began when she enrolled in an introductory course at the Chicago Mosaic School. She has since studied under mosaic masters including Matteo Randi, Maestro Lucio Orsoni in Venice, Italy studying smalti (the glass used in European cathedrals), Martin Cheek, the late Ilana Shafir, known as the “Grand Dame of Contemporary Mosaics” and most recently, Luciana Notturni in Italy where she learned to work with “filati” and make micro-mosaic jewelry. Sonya’s education includes a B.A. in Political Science from
DePaul University in Chicago and a Master’s in City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University.
