68 awards given to students in grades K - 12 from 32 participating schools
Tequesta, Fla. (May 17, 2014) — Creative school children from Martin and Palm Beach County area schools are experiencing their first, professional showing thanks to the 44th Annual Kindergarten through 12th Grade Community Student Exhibition at the Lighthouse ArtCenter. Visitors can see the vast artistic talent of our young generation displayed in nearly 500 pieces of art now through May 21st at the Lighthouse ArtCenter gallery in Tequesta. Admission is free and open to the public during regular Gallery hours. A total of 68 awards were given to students during the grades 6 – 12 and K – 5 award ceremonies.
“I wish we could give prizes and awards to all the students!” commented Lighthouse ArtCenter’s curator, Barbra Broidy. “There is just so much talent, and I tend to fall in love with every piece of artwork these enthusiastic students create. They are all winners in my eyes.”
The grades 6 – 12 awards ceremony took place April 30th, with the grades K – 5 ceremony taking place on May 1st. A truly community affair, awards were presented from: Tequesta Junior Woman's Club, GFWC Women's Club of Jupiter-Tequesta, Lighthouse ArtCenter, North County Art Association, Evelyne Bates (Creative Clay Award), Ed and Darby Gorman (The Gorman Awards), Ted Matz (Excellence in Painting), Julie Silk-Beaumont (Silk Wildlife Awards), Ruth Petzold (Marine Art Awards) and Pat DeAloia (Excellence in Art). Each winning artist received a cash award in addition to a ribbon and a certificate.
Art teachers from Palm Beach and Martin counties submitted the most dynamic student artwork of the school year for display in the exhibition, representing art of various media including drawing, painting, ceramics, mixed-media, sculpture and photography. The annual show is one of the museum’s most popular, drawing nearly two-thousand proud parents, grandparents, siblings and lovers of young art.
Lighthouse ArtCenter’s 43rd Annual Kindergarten through 12th Grade Community Student Exhibition runs now through May 21, 2014. Admission is free during the regular Museum hours of Monday – Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Museum is closed on Sundays.
