Exploring Watercolors
Exploring the pleasures and challenges of watercolor. Learn a variety of techniques, including wet-on-wet and dry brush, as you learn to paint primarily from still-life setups and photos. Demonstrations of techniques and discussion of the principles of color mixing and composition are an essential part of this course.
Beginning to advanced.

Acrylics
Explore painting techniques, composition, color, and creative expression in an upbeat, and encouraging atmosphere. Learn brushwork, layering, and color coving techniques and apply them to express yourself in paint. Students benefit from individual attention, demonstrations, and supportive critiques. Direction is tailored to student abilities and artistic goals.
Beginning to Intermediate.

Contemporary Abstract &  Figurative Oil Painting
The class will explore the relationships of forms, colors, light, and textures and their application to the design and finish of both abstract and figurative painting. Students will have the choice of developing studio-set compositions (or personal images) into fully abstract paintings, or being guided into creating contemporary representational pieces.
All levels welcome.

Open Studio with Karen
During this class, students can choose any subject (from photos they have or borrow from Karen’s collection).  Class will begin with a 30 minute demo, followed by a brief critique of what each student is currently working on.  Karen will provide individual attention and instruction during the class.
All levels of oil painting welcome.

Color Theory
This 8-week, intensive color course will teach you everything you need to know about how to mix the right color the first time you try.  Students will begin with a color wheel that they create with only warm and cool primary colors and white.  Color will be studied with the idea  of creating palettes of color that work for each individual, not just a general palette.  This class has homework, color charts teaching you about your specific palette choice.  Special canvases, 30”x 30,” will be needed for this class.

Getting the Glow
This class will concentrate on using color temperature to create a glow in your paintings.  Students will explore how this is done in all genres of paintings from landscapes to seascapes to florals and beyond.

More Than Your Basic Landscape
This class is excellent for all levels of oil painters.  Karen will cover all the basics of blocking in a design/composition and how to finish it with details, giving it your own personal style.  All the basics of a good painting will be covered; color, composition, brushwork, edges and values.

Putting the Figure Into Your Paintings
This class will study how to use the figure as a focal point in any setting. Karen will concentrate on how to make the figure look relaxed and anatomically correct.  Intermediate to advanced oil painting student.
Beginners with good drawing skills are welcome.

Realism in Painting
Explore the world of realism and learn how to capture its essence. As you create realistic masterpieces, you will receive one-on-one instruction from Randall.  Students are encouraged to research and develop themes, as well as bring their own photographs to work from. All levels welcome.

Introduction to Oil Painting
Learn the exciting medium of oil paint.  Explore basic design and color mixing techniques to gain confidence and develop your skills to produce beautiful paintings.  First class meets September 10. 
Beginning and intermediate painters are welcome.

Master (your) Piece
Get the guidance and techniques needed to turn an almost finished painting into frameable art. Limited to 6 painters to insure plenty of individualized guidance as well as demos, as needed. Oil preferred, acrylics accepted.
Intermediate to advanced only.

Mini Acrylics for the Beginner 
​For the first time painter, learn the basics of acrylic painting on a mini canvas, using a photo reference which will be digitally scaled to the size of the canvas, so the artist will learn to paint using the grid system, making the process easier. Artists will work with land and seascapes. By the end of the class, the student will not only learn basic techniques of painting, but will also have the basic understanding of the art elements and principles of design.

Exploring the Vibrancy of Pastels
Each week, we will focus on one of the basics of painting, strengthening student skill and learning techniques unique to the application of pastels. Learn about the various types of pastels and papers available and tips for framing pastel paintings.  Students will work from their own photographic references to create landscape, figurative and abstract paintings. Demos and individual attention will be provided.  Expressive interpretation of the reference material will be encouraged.
All levels welcome.

​Portrait Development - From Drawing to Painting
Before any master’s great portrait painting, there has been a great portrait drawing. Learn about Fernando's approach to pencil sketching and follow the process to a great painting in oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, or preferred medium. Start with great drawing techniques to improve your sketching ability and finish your portrait guided in your chosen medium. This class will cover lighting and color choices, and explore a series of painting styles, from abstract to contemporary realism.
All levels welcome.

Drawing & Painting “Alla Prima”
Develop and enhance your skills in both drawing and painting. Students are encouraged to work with a limited color palette on canvas or heavy paper with the aim of starting and completing a new work at each class session. Learn drawing skills and how to transition them into harmonious landscapes, still-lifes or portraits.  Learning will be maximized through instructor demo’s as well as individual attention for each student.

Watercolor Bold and Free -  Enjoying Color and Light
“To paint,” said Paul Cézanne, “is to grasp a harmony among many relationships.” This class will explore the relationships between color and light and show you how to create quick, bold, colorful pieces radiant with light. Join the class to learn about the behavior of water on paper and plenty of easy-to-master color, light, and texture tricks and stroke techniques.

Working Studio with Hugh O’Neill
Learn how to create strong vibrant paintings with fluid and confident brush work.  Hugh will teach by example, adding demos while explaining each key point. You will learn: looser brush work, powerful color mixing, better drawing skills, what to paint and why.

Advanced Acrylics - Discovering Your Personal Style
This class focuses on various foundational skills for painting in a creative atmosphere. Learn how to get started, setup a palette and mix color, brushwork, wet-on-wet, glazing, layering, texture and how to use gels and mediums. Students will work from instructor photographs until you develop your own ideas and your painting skills improve.
Beginning to intermediate.
