The Lighthouse Center for the Arts and ComericA Wealth and Institutional Management were pleased to present Grammy-winning tenor saxophonist Carlos Averhoff and Friends.

Averhoff was born in Cuba and graduated in 1969 from Havana's Conservatrio Amadeo Roldan with a major in saxophone. While with the influential Cuban-based Irakere (1973-1994), he was the recipient of the 1979 Grammy for Best Latin Recording. In addition to his twenty plus albums with Irakere, Mr. Averhoff has recorded two under his own name.  He has performed in jazz festivals around the world and was awarded the prestigious Orden de la Culture Nacional, one of Cuba's highest civilian honors.  He has shared the stage with such jazz luminaries as Stan Getz, Tito Puente, Joe Henderson, Chick Corea, George Benson, Dizzy Gillespie, Kenny G., Betty Carter and others.  A respected teacher for over 25 years, he has also participated in many workshops and clinics throughout the world.

Canadian pianist Anne Louise-Turgeon appears on the Albany Records label performing solo piano music of Ezra Laderman. Upcoming recording projects include works for two pianos by Johannes Brahms; two piano masterpieces by Spanish composers as well as works for two pianos; and one piano four-hands by Max Reger.  As a soloist, Louise-Turgeon has taken prizes in the Cleveland and Sydney International Piano Competitions, as well as a Government of Canada Award for Achievement in the Arts and an Ontario Arts Council Chalmers Award for advanced solo studies.

She holds a Master of Music, Master of Musical Arts and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in piano performance from Yale University School of Music, where she received the school’s highest honor - the Dean’s Award for top graduate - and the Charles F. Miller Award for best recital.

An author, scholar, versatile musician, singer and all-around socko  entertainer, Tex Wyndham is a recognized authority on ragtime and early jazz.  He performs as a ragtime soloist, band pianist and as cornetist and leader of  The Rent Party Revellers, The Red Lion Jazz Band, and The MTB (Margery  Thompson Birthday) Jazz Band. A prolific author, Mr. Wyndham has written several books on Dixieland music. He''s been writing columns and ragtime and classic jazz reviews for numerous  publications over the last 35 years, including The American Rag, The  Mississippi Rag and the Rag Times. From 1966 to 1997, he had more published  reviews of ragtime, Dixieland jazz and related music recordings than any  other U.S.-based writer. He also has more than 30 recordings of ragtime and  jazz music on the market. Mr. Wyndham has been headlining national ragtime and jazz festivals for many  years, as well as playing jazz clubs and cruises.
