Summer 2008 Internship Program
The Lighthouse Center for the
Arts will offer an internship to 8 high school students and 4 undergraduate
students.
Students become involved in a range of professional activities,
with the primary focus for summer facilitation of art instruction within our summer
camp program for children ages 4-12.
High School Internship
Eight high school students
will be selected this year to participate in the High School Internship Program.
Interns will spend approximately 80% of their week working directly with children;
assisting experienced art teachers facilitate summer camp groups in hands-on art
activities. Every intern will be trained by staff. The interns will spend the other
20% of their time on project planning, preparation and clean up.
Length: 2 weeks minimum
Positions: 8
Required Commitment: 35 hours per week
Eligibility: High school interns must be rising juniors, seniors or about to enter
their first year of college. Selection criteria include merit, enthusiasm and communication
skills. While an interest in art is preferred, students do not have to have an extensive
art background. Experience working with groups of children preferred.
Summer Undergraduate
and Graduate Internship
Length: 2 weeks minimum
Positions: 4
Required Commitment: 35 hours per week
Eligibility: Undergraduate or graduate students
may apply. Students must be currently enrolled. While an interest in art is preferred,
students do not have to have an extensive art background. Other interests may include
early childhood, elementary education, art education, or arts administration. Interns
will work in conjunction with an experienced art educator to develop and facilitate
engaging, interactive art curriculum.
After several weeks, the intern will take on a leadership
role within camp activities, planning and implementing their own lesson plans.
