Contempo
January 7 - February 6, 2010

Contempo "pushed the limit on art" with a showcase of contemporary art of all media. This show was juried by Nelson Hallonquist, Contemporary Art judge and co-director of the Gavlak Gallery in Palm Beach. His discriminating eye currently places work on the Gavlak Gallery wall, as well as larger exhibitions such as Art Basel Miami Beach.

Bra-Vo!
Artists designing bras for the fight against breast cancer
January 7 - February 11, 2010

49 amazing "Art Bras" created by local artists in the fight against breast cancer were on display in our Museum. The bras were auctioned off at the conclusion of the exhibition during the "Pink" Cocktail Party. A portion of proceeds will be donated to breast cancer research.

The Art of Film
January 11 - February 11, 2010

An exhibition featuring contemporary artists Irwin Berman, Nancy Cervenka and Deanna Kruger, who create interesting and intricate artworks using film out of its original element and purpose. From sculptures to wall hangings, you had to see it to believe it!

A study of easy access to excess food in our culture brings awareness to food waste in our communities.

 

SURFari - The Old and New of Surfing in Florida
In conjunction with the SURF HISTORY PROJECT

This exhibition captured endless summers filled with surf, sun and fun and featured vintage surf photos, surboards, surf movie posters, club jackets and a 1930 Woody Panel Model A ford Truck as the centerpiece.

 

CHAIRity

Local artists created functional works of art for this CHAIRitable exhibiton and auction. Divine, decadent and delightful chairs designed by artists from the Seabranch Art League were auctioned by Tim Luke, with all proceeds to benefit the Summer Camp Scholarship Program for the Lighthouse Center for the Arts.

Earth Elements
June 5 - July 16, 2009

An earth-inspiring showcase of artwork by Melani Kane Brewer, Pam Moody and Maya Schonenberger, including fiber works, ceramics and jewelry. Each artist interprets nature in Florida through their individualized twists on traditional media.


FIND ART: Staff Style
June 5-July 16, 2009

This dynamic group exhibition spotlighted the hidden talents of the staff of the Lighthouse Center for the Arts. The wide range of works included paintings, ceramics and drawing, and showed the vitality and diversity of work as it flourishes at the Center today.

2009 Member Student Exhibition and Art Sale

Saluting the work of our members and students!

Each year, the Lighthouse Center for the Arts offers an opportunity for our artists not only to show their work, but to offer their artwork for sale to the community. The exhibition kicked off with an Artists Opening Reception and Awards event on Thursday, April 2. 

Are you a Lighthouse Center for the Arts student or member?  Consider entering your artwork next year: this non-juried exhibition is open to all artists who are current members or registered students at Lighthouse Center for the Arts.

Visual Poetry

Featuring the photographs of Kevin Boldenow

A collection of black and white images exploring the inherent beauty of the rivers and forests in our own backyard. By recording the spectacular landscape that drew people to Florida long ago and still exists today, photographer Kevin Boldenow aims to capture the beauty, vitality and necessity of our environment.

Caroline M. Bell and the Peconic Bay Impressionists
February 5 - March 28, 2009
Guest curator: Terry Wallace, Wallace Galleries


Ms. Bell's early landscapes emphasize a moody, misty atmosphere along the Peconic Bay.
The ''Peconic Bay Impressionists'' were a group of early-20th-century artists living along the North Fork on Long Island. About half of the paintings on display were by Ms. Bell, who was both an extremely capable landscape painter and a talented teacher. Works by her students and colleagues made up the rest of this exhibition.

Abstraction Attraction
January 8 - March 28, 2009

This juried exhibition featured the winning two-dimensional abstract art works from three members of the North County Artists Association: Camille Babusik, Tanya Witzel and Emalee Andre. Juried by Bruce Helander.

Rockwell Kent Part II
"After Greenland (1935-1971): Paintings & Politics"
January 29-March 16, 2009

This exhibition included paintings and prints from this period. The gallery also hosted several film screenings and lectures on Rockwell Kent throughout the exhibition, providing visitors with a unique perspective on Kent the artist. 

Carbonell
Modern master sculptor
January 8-31, 2009

Eight foot towering bronze sculptures were on display in contrast to delicate twelve-inch works of master sculptor, Manual Carbonell.

After his exile from Cuba in 1959, Carbonell moved to the U.S., where he began experimenting with his new freedom of expression and to search for the essence of the human form. Carbonell's forms are romantic and  unexaggerated, and convey a heroic aesthetic. His work contains sensuous lines and a sensitive, balanced composition. He is indeed, as cristics have acclaimed, one of the masters of sculpture of our time.

Contemporary Painting from Eastern Cuba
January 8-31, 2009

Classical and modern styles intertwine and rich, abundant hues abound. Subjects encompass breathtaking landscapes, genre scenes and  abstract works with surrealistic themes creating richly imagined comments on life in Cuba.

This group exhibition featured the diverse mix of techniques and approaches employed by the remarkably talented artists that comprise our faculty. This enlightening exhibition showcased a variety of media, including painting, drawing and ceramics and gives insight into the expansive view of art in our community.

An enchanting exhibition featuring well-loved storybook characters.

This exhibition featured more than 100 works by Janeen Mason, renowned children's book author and illustrator.

 

Three Hots and a Cot
A photographic documentary on the homeless.
September 15 - November 4, 2008

This exhibition captured the human spirit and touched on the fabric of the lives of the homeless, who, e.j. manton tried to capture in this photographic documentary.


Canstruction
Art as a catalyst for change, one can at a time.
September 15 - November 4, 2008

An exhibition featuring sculptures built entrirely out of ordinary cans of food.

This was all part of Canstruction, an annual design competition that resulted  in the donation of the cans to a local food bank.  All cans were donated to the Treasure Coast Food Bank.  Read more...

 

Art of Travel: Reflections of China

This exhibition featured ancient artifacts from our collection, Chinese brush painting, photography by Ruth Petzold and Katie Muldoon and watercolors of destroyed Beijing residential courtyard gates by Weizhi Zhang.

The Palm Beach Post's Focus on Nature
Photography Contest

June 6 - August 25, 2008
An exhibition featuring first through third place-winning photographs from all five categories.

Palm Beach Post readers entered almost 4,000 photos in its fourth annual "Focus on Nature" photography contest, which showcases the natural beauty of Florida in five categories: plants, landscapes, animals, ocean and close-up. This exhibition featured beautiful images of our state, as seen through the eyes of some very talented photographers.
