Enjoy the Perks of a Lighthouse ArtCenter Membership!

It's just one more reason to renew or join as a member of the Lighthouse ArtCenter. In addition to the benefits listed on our Membership page, we have recently introduced a free to members event, 3rd Thursdays.

On the 3rd Thursday evening of each month, we  feature fun, social activities such as concerts, lectures, art demonstrations, live performances and gallery talks.  It's a perfect opportunity to broaden your knowledge of the arts and mingle with other art enthusiasts and Lighthouse ArtCenter members.

A Dog-Gone Art Show

3rd Thursday Reception: Thursday, August 19
5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

The Lighthouse ArtCenter is hosting A Dog-Gone Art Show, an exhibition and auction to benefit the Lighthouse ArtCenter and the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, a no-kill animal shelter and clinic, saving the lives of thousands of animals in our community.

Multiple Sins

3rd Thursday Reception: Thursday, July 15
5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Multiple Sins is open through Sept. 25, and in conjunction with the exhibition, the ArtCenter will host Barry Seidman, who will lecture on The Art and Magic of Still Photography during the museum’s 3rd Thursday event, scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. July 15.

Seidman will offer insights into his techniques and talk about “tricks of the trade” as he shows the audience how he uses illusion to create his trademark still-life photography.

Family Celebration of Children's Art and Illustration

Members of the Center and community guests are encouraged to bring children or grandchildren to accompany them to this special art celebration where costumes and dress-up are encouraged, but not required. The event previews the ArtAbound summer camp season and provides a glimpse of exciting exhibitions to come this summer. The museum’s current exhibition, the 40th Annual Kindergarten through 12th grade Student Show, sets the evening’s festive family mood. Prizes for Best Costume will be awarded for both adults and children. Ideas for costumes may be inspired from the Center’s ArtAbound summer camp theme, “Once Upon a Paintbrush.” Guests are invited to dress as their favorite story character from superhero, animal and ocean legends, magical fairy tales and space adventures.

Live Art Demonstrations

Faculty and guest artists went "live” and demonstrated the many mediums taught and exhibited at the School of Art and Museum. Guests tried their hand under the artists’ guidance in ceramics, painting, drawing, collage, airbrush painting, and more. Featured artists included Cara McKinley, ceramics; Sean Kelley, airbrush; Norma Conway, portrait painting; Al Rowe, figure drawing; Judy Flescher, collage and Ted Matz, Watercolor and Drawing Technique.

Palm Beach Opera Night

Palm Beach Opera's Young Artists performed excerpts from the upcoming production of Carmen. Rex Hearn, opera critic and founder of the Berkshire Opera Company, spoke about the history of opera, how to enjoy it, and he told the story of Bizet's Carmen.


Film student actors shoot a scene directed by Burt Reynolds in the Mahlon and Betty Cline Master Studio at LCA School of Art.

3rd Thursday Hosts: The Burt Reynolds Institute for Film and Theatre

Actors from the Burt Reynolds Institute for Film and Theatre (BRIFT) performed lively scenes and invited audience participation. BRIFT staff invited LCA members and guests to read scenes from the upcoming Under the Bridge Players production of the Gin Game. READ MORE>>

What is Super Tuscan wine? How do you make fresh mozzarella?

These and other delectable questions will be answered as we explore the Tuscan region of Italy. Enjoy a wine tasting of four regional wines given by Total Wine & More, followed by a scrumptious food demonstration and sampling by In the Kitchen. This is a food and wine lover's delight!

"Myth & Mystique of the Flute"
Featuring Sara Stout

Explore the myth and mystique of the flute with Sara Stout as she plays several instruments, including Panpies, Native American Flute, Medicine Wind Flute, the Shakuhachi and more. Guests learned about the demi-god Pan, and the Native American petroglyph figure Kokopelli and how they influenced the flute and its music. 

Ms. Stout is an adjunct professor at Palm Beach Atlantic University who has performed in local professional ensembles and is founder and conductor of the Flutopia Flute Choir.

"Collage-i-cally Speaking"
Featuring Mary D'Avanzo, Collage Artist

Mary D'Avanzo talked about the process of creating collage art.  Anyone who is interested in this unique art form enjoyed hearing about it from this talented artist's perspective. Mary is a member of the Seabranch Art League.

"The Art of Shaping"
Featured speakers:  Bill Holmesy and Tom Orlando

Bill Holmesy, one of Palm Beach County's earliest surfboard manufacturers, shared some of his experiences from the height of the surfing craze in Palm Beach in the 1960s.

Tom Orlando, also a local surfboard shaper, discussed how he creates one-of-a-kind surfboards using recycled wood.

Featured speaker: Tom Warnke
Trustee for the Palm Beach County Surf History Project

Tom spoke about the history of surfing in the area, the people that made it all happen and the future of the Surf History Project.

Lecture and Visual Presentation by painter, colorist and bricoleur artist Aida Fry.

"Ecoart: What it is, What We're Doing"

This special presentation brought attention to ecology and the arts. Featuring guest speaker Osvaldo Monzon, Deputy Director at the Elliott Museum and Guest Curator of the "Xavier Cortada Reclamation Project", an Eco-Art Treasure Coast endeavour through the Arts Council of Martin County. Mr. Monzon spoke about the launch of the Arts Council's two-year community education and ecoart apprenticeship program, including the ecoart exhibition in collaboration with the South Florida Environmental Art Project.

Caroline M. Bell & the Peconic Bay Impressionists
Gallery Talk and Book Signing by Guest Curator Terry Wallace, of Wallace Gallery

A niche group of Impressionist painters gave the north fork of Long Island a place in the art world. This exhibition was ten years in the making and included a 200-page hard cover catalogue, authored by Mr. Wallace.

Gallery Talk and Film Screening of an Insightful Documentary Aired on PBS

A special gallery talk with Clyde Hensley, Producer and the man behind the Cuba Oriente movement. Nominated for an Angel Award at the Monaco Film Festival, this in-depth journey through Oriente, Cuba's easternmost region, featured personal interviews with the area's highly acclaimed artists.
